David Casteleijn

MHSc (Herbal Medicine) (UNE)
BHSc (Naturopathy) (ECNH)
PhD Candidate (UTS)
RN (RBWH)

With a Registered Nurse background, I have been in private practice as a Naturopath since 1992. Over this time I have developed a passion for Herbs and their wonderful healing and regenerative qualities, particularly in the last 10 years in relation to Anxiety and Depression.

This passion led me to teach herbal medicine at the Australian College of Natural Medicine ACNM (now called the Endeavour College of Natural Health ECNH). In 2006 I completed a Masters Health Science (Herbal Medicine) through the University of New England.  I am Currently a PhD candidate at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) with my project being a naturalistic observational study of Western herbal medicine practice in self-reported anxiety and depression.  In 2017 I was elected to the board of the Naturopaths and Herbalists Association of Australia (NHAA) and currently chair the professions committee

Herbal Medicine is ideal for treating many common health problems. These include chronic disorders such as arthritis, asthma, skin disorders and digestive problems which usually respond well. One of the greatest strengths of herbal medicine is the way it can improve the functioning of the immune system and nervous system – extremely important given the demands of our modern lives.

Watch David talking about his passion for Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine

People sometimes feel awkward coming along to a Naturopath if they don’t have a specific diagnosis. In fact, many of the clients I see don’t really know what is wrong with them, but are very clear that they don’t feel “quite right”! Naturopathy is ideally suited to this situation, as quite often the underlying issue may be an exhausted nervous system, a disordered digestive system, hormonal imbalance, or other underlying causes, which may not be immediately apparent.

Although it is usually necessary to make some changes to your diet, I endeavour to make these as realistic as possible. If you are particularly run down, I may not change your diet at the initial consultation, but wait until you feel more energised from the initial treatment.
